Le Tuquet is conveniently situated for visiting the historic Bastide towns of Eymet, Beaumont, Villeréal, Monflanquin and Monpazier between the rivers Dordogne and Lot. The house is less than ½ km from Queyssel on the river Dropt; 4 km from Lauzun with its lake, château, boulangerie etc.; and, only 8 km from the Bastide town of Eymet with its market square, surrounded by shops, bars and restaurants.
Region
The region is full of natural beauty with its deep valleys; forests of oak and chestnut; lakes and rivers; fields of sunflowers and tobacco plants; orchards of apple, cherry and plum trees; and of, course, its vineyards.
History
It is also steeped in history with painted caves of earliest man; magnificent châteaux; and, médiéval towns and villages.
People
The people enjoy a slower pace of life and are warm, welcoming and friendly.
Leisure and Shopping
Locally, ample sporting facilities are to be found including canoeing, cycle-hire, horse riding, golf and tennis. There are numerous markets throughout the week in the local towns and villages in the area - the centre of which is the interesting town of Bergerac, with its beautifully preserved médiéval quarter. Spectacular son et lumière is performed here each summer, and many other places have fêtes and festivals – all amply supplied with excellent food and wine. Eating out in this region is most rewarding but agreeably inexpensive.
